About Us . . .

Britacoon was established in 1999 with my first Maine Coon. Today it is a small husband and wife run Cattery located in Central Virginia. Our prime concerns for our cats are their health, happiness, and temperament and the preservation of this great breed!

Our Cattery is our home in Farmville, Virginia; our kittens are raised underfoot. Our kittens usually stay with us until they are between 12 and 16 weeks old, depending on their individual development. We give them all the time they need with their mothers and siblings. We make a serious and ongoing commitment to every kitten born here; at any time in their life, we are always available to ensure they have a safe, loving home. Our Cattery sits on over 3.9 wooded acres with a beautiful lake view for our Maine Coons to sit and watch geese, squirrels, fox, deer, raccoon and other woodland creatures -- and the creatures watch them -- warily. Since the cats are behind glass and never go outdoors, it's the best of both worlds for all concerned.

The fees we charge for our kittens are to cover, in part, veterinary expenses, supplies, health screenings, spaying/neutering, and showing. We actively show our cats and kittens, both to evaluate their temperament and also to check the progress of our breeding program against the written standards for our breed. We believe the very best show cat is the very best pet--a cat who has an outgoing affectionate personality is both wonderful in the show ring and at home. Our cattery is registered with the Cat Fanciers Association, The International Cat Association and the American Cat Fanciers Association, although we primarily show our cats in CFA at this time.

We breed for Health, Personality, Type, Size and Color. None of our cats are caged, as they are part of our family and are free to roam the house and explore. Our adult cats are tested for FeLV/FIV, vaccinated against FVCRP and rabies and screened for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). We are fortunate to be able to work with a wonderful practice of board certified veterinary cardiologists. Therefore, we can screen our breeding cats throughout their breeding careers multiple times. Screening is the best means we have available but it offers no absolute guarantees against the development of disease. We are thoroughly committed to screening our cats on an ongoing basis and willingly share those health clearances and reports. We also adhere to a set health policy. Britacoon Cattery stands firmly behind the quality of a cat and not the quantity of a litter and that's why there will be just one or two litters a year and no more, because of this we will be taking kitten reservations.

ALL OUR KITTENS ARE SOLD AS "PET KITTENS" UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, AND ALL OUR PET KITTENS ARE ALTERED (I.E. SPAYED OR NEUTERED) BEFORE PLACEMENT. If you are interested in a Breeding Cat or Show Cat, please write to Becky for more information on pedigrees, pricing, and contractual issues. We prefer to work with established breeders when it comes to selling a potential breeder. We will evaluate each potential buyer and their home before selling a kitten and we reserve the right to deny any potential buyer one of our kittens.

Important: I need to meet a buyer before I sell a kitten to her/him.  I am no longer shipping kittens but I can deliver at your expense.  Please consider picking up a kitten personally from us in Farmville, Virginia (1 hour Southwest of Richmond) or pay for my ticket or gas for me to bring the a kitten to you.

[Note: Tabby patterns are classic pattern unless specifically noted "mackerel." Classic tabby pattern has bullseye on stomach and butterfly swirls on shoulders. Mackerel tabby pattern has tiger stripes on sides. Both tabby patterns have striping on face and legs.]
